A few-body perspective to impurity physics: cold chemistry
The physics behind a charged impurity in an ultracold bath of atoms is generally studied from a many-body perspective. However, in this talk, we study the dynamics of a charged impurity in an ultracold bath of atoms and molecules from a few-body perspective. In particular, we focus on two-body and three-body processes involving atoms, ions, and molecules. As a result, it will be shown that few-body processes are required to understand the nature and fate of a charged impurity in an ultracold bath, especially when the bath is composed of weakly bound molecules. Moreover, we present the effects of the time-dependent trap holding the ion on the impurity’s dynamics. Finally, in this talk, we emphasize that few-body physics complements many-body approaches to understand impurity physics in the ultracold realm better.
