In many instances, the Bloch Equations can provide an adequate description of the interaction of atomic or molecular systems with electromagnetic radiation. In this presentation, a brief derivation of the Bloch Equations will be given. This will be followed by their application to pulsed and (frequency) chirped microwave spectroscopy. The process of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, where energy level populations can be transferred through a special kind of double resonance experiment, will also be described.
